We Need Adult Immigration Stories

Dear Parents,

In Social Studies, we are studying immigration into the United States. Although the curriculum is rich and flooded with great examples, one major piece is missing: personal stories. We know there are important experiences to learn from while we study the unit.

Last year, volunteers came into the classroom to share their immigration stories. The students and I loved having them. This year I’d like to do it again.

Volunteers will come into the classroom to share their immigration story (this can be yourself, grandparents, aunts or uncles). Students will prepare some questions ahead of time. To be most prepared (questions-to-ask-regarding-your-immigration-story), volunteers should think about sharing push (why they wanted to leave their origin country) and pull (what drew you to the US) factors.
