We’ve started working towards launching reading groups. I know, get excited! In reading groups, students will be reading the same book. Individuals will be working on acquiring similar reading skills as their group members.

While in groups, students will have opportunities to track big ideas in their books. Reading groups give students a chance to grow their reading muscles. Often, a read aloud idea will be found in the reading group selection. Students who take what they’ve learned in lessons into their reading group will find success!

Reading Group Goals

• read a book on their level,
• practice new reading strategies with that book,
• grow ideas through group discussion,
• shared text
• raising level of talk
• access to appropriate level of text
• scaffolding thinking on teaching point from teacher
• focused work on teaching point within group
• put teaching point into “action”
• possible check ins for understanding
