DON’T SAY I DIDN’T WARN YOU!

 

Sirius Black escaped Azkaban. Do not try to apprehend him alone. Summon the closest dementor, then run!

 

Harry goes back in time to unleash the Patronus Charm to save himself and Sirius Black from the Dementor’s Kiss.

The last session students also learned the importance of friendship. That was easily seen when Harry learned from Sirius that James Potter, Sirius, and Peter Pettigrew studied to become Animgus Wizards. They could shapeshift instantly becoming a creature at will. They did this to be with their friend, R.J. Lupin, was a werewolf. Harry was lured into the Shrieking Shack by Sirius Black. “Padfoot” learned Harry was loyal and would do anything to protect his friends.

A huge, HUGE thank you goes out Ms. Costa who was the guest teacher for the past session. She provided great insight and love for reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. She lead the class discussion, provided craft materials, and helped students create their own Whomping Willow. Check out the directions below to make your own Whomping Willow!

Next week, our guest teacher will be the one, the only, Mr. Taylor! Be sure you’ve read Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. If you need a copy, be sure to see Mr. Bruff in room 30. We will discuss:

  • similarities between Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort,
  • the wide and vast wizarding world,
  • and give students an amazing chance to earn House Cup points.

Want to Earn House Cup Points?

As mentioned in the book club meeting. Check out the link and directions to create your own folded Marauder’s Map. I will take one completed map per house. This is an opportunity to earn up to 100 points for your house.

Last week we discussed Dementors, Boggarts, the Grim, and Divination Class. Be sure to complete the graphic organizer for a chance to earn your house 20 points.

 

Make a Whomping Willow (each member of the house can earn 10 points if completed and handed to Mr. Bruff in room 30.

Whomping Willow Directions

Materials Needed:

  • paper bag
  • scissors
  • glue
  • green construction paper

 

Steps:

  1. Cut 6 to 8-inch strips into the paper bag.
  2.  Twist bag to make the trunk of the Whomping Willow Tree. Do this step first, it will prevent help your tree stand upright. 

  3. Twist individual strips to create branches of your Whomping Willow Tree.
  4. Cut green construction paper into the desired shape of leaves for your Whomping Willow and attach them with glue.
  5. Smile because you’ve completed your Whomping Willow. Remember to press the knob to gain control of the tree.
