Math is a great time for investigations. And for a few minutes before recess, we investigated triangles. What would that look like?
Students started their investigation with an image on the SMARTboard. Triangles of all sizes were in the image. Students stated what they noticed to active their background knowledge. Next, students were encouraged to draw the image they saw in front of them. Once they had created their own working model, students explained in numbers, pictures and words how many triangles were in the image.
How Many Triangles are There?
Students were encouraged to work in groups during this investigation. Working in pairs and trios to solve the problem. Although no Brufftopian arrived at a final answer, I’d still be interested to see how many triangles you counted. The question remains if you are up to the challenge.
