Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is with great pleasure that I report that our shipment of food and water left Bowman on Friday and is expected to get to our new sister school in Cayey, Puerto Rico later this afternoon or tomorrow.
I had an opportunity to speak directly with the principal of the school, Mr. Orlando Diaz, this morning and he sends his thanks and his appreciation for our efforts on their behalf. They are currently waiting for FEMA to inspect their school building before they can have students return. There are some missing roofs of classrooms and some damage, but not as much as for families in the area. Mr. Diaz sends his deepest thanks to the Bowman community for their generosity.
I want to extend a huge thank you to Mr. Anthony Baglio, BOS Service Station Manager at DHL Express for their willingness to ship our donations for free. We couldn’t have done this without them. We know that they could only do this for a few locations – so we appreciate being one of them.
We will be working to send gift cards and money orders to the school. Mr. Diaz says that banks are unreliable in access right now – so we will be sending to the school account – but cannot wire the funds.
We wanted to let you know that our link on the PTA website will be open through the end of the week in case you wanted to donate, but hadn’t yet gotten around to doing so at bowmanpta.org under the “Donate to the Bowman PTA” link.
The children and families of Cayey at the Escuela Begino Carrión, are so appreciative of our generosity! Thank you for your help!
Mary
