Brufftopian Buddies!!
Yup, thats right, the fourth graders of brufftopia got to meet their first grade reading buddies after a long two or three months without seeing them!
First grade reading buddies, are a chance for kids to get to know new people that are in a different grade, and teach them to read!
We each get assigned a first grade buddy, and read to them.
Afterward if we are lucky we get to hear the first graders read stories like, ms. tittle mouse, or frog and toad, to us.
It may sound like an easy task, but getting to know people is harder than it sounds!
In the beginning, most of the first graders were shy, and didn’t know what to think about reading with a much older kid.
But it wasn’t just them, some of us need to learn how to not be socially awkward, that includes reaching out, and engaging with your buddie. They are a lot younger, and i think they are helping people with a lot more than reading. They are helping us be friendly!
I think it is so much fun having reading buddies!
If you had one, what would you think? Written by Chloe H.
Reading Buddies
In our Reading Buddies we like to read books and not just that but we also like to talk about the main idea of the story and the theme. But when it comes to reading the most fun part is that we get to think about what the author is trying to teach us and we think and see if there is a life lesson.
For example me and my reading buddy we take turns reading our books and also we take turns sharing our thoughts on what the author is trying to teach us and the most important part is we get talk about the Heart of the Story.
Another example is that we like to explain our thinking about our thought of the story and we even like to see if we can make any connections in between our two stories and see if the authors are teaching us almost the same thing.
One final example is that me and my reading buddy like to even stop and ask ourselves is there something here that the author is trying to teach us and does it have something to do with the Heart of the Story.
Also here is an example of an image of the work that me and my reading buddy and other reading buddy partnerships like to do with our reading buddies.
So next time if you read a book ask yourself am I doing one of these things that are really important to do if you are going to do things that a good reader would do. Written by Christie L.
The Impact of Reading Buddies
These are buddies in bowman school most of the older kids in the older classes are paired with a younger kids and a different grade.
Well you probably get the idea that they are our reading buddies. But something is special about them they are younger! They are a 1st grade class in Bowman school.
I know what you are thinking they are 1st grader they most likely can’t read. Well that is not true they can read. Us 4th grader do most of the reading. But sometimes when I ask do you want read they say sure! They may not be very good with the hard words but they can still read.
What makes this so cool is that they are a different grade than us. We don’t know them we don’t even know who we are going to get paired with. Another thing that makes it so cool is that we are the older grade so we tower over them. Sometimes we tower over them, they still look up to us. I personally have never been looked up to before. It is a great experience, when you become an adult, you can of know what to expect.
When you are the older class you need to follow the rules set a good example. Having a younger buddy is just like that! If you talk in the hallways and they see you doing that well they’re going to do it too. If you don’t set a good example they could end up as a really bad student. And you really don’t want that to happen.
Reading to your buddy is helping your reading skills too, by helping you ( 4th grade student in Mr. Bruffs class) get better at reading out loud. It helps you make a speech. Like if you have to present something to the whole class. You just have to think of reading to your buddy or buddies.
A lot of the brufftopian are big readers this helps us brufftopian become even bigger readers. For example: We are sharing our love of reading with our buddies. It is also good to take a break and read a easy book. TO show that no matter what book we are reading we still love reading.
Well I hope you found out about what reading buddies are in bowman school. I hope it helped you on seeing how much an older kid can make of a defence. Written by Gabriella C.
