Friday, December 1st, Bowman School fourth graders came together discuss the end of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Students really enjoyed the book. Many students enjoyed learning about Harry’s bravery in the face of certain death. Students also enjoyed receiving their Polyjuice and Skelegro Potions (the potions are slime and are not edible). Most importantly, students were able to create their own wizard names by making anagrams.
Themes Discussed During the Book Club
- There is more to life than being famous.
- Everyone (muggles included) should be treated with respect.
- Money, power, and fame are not as important as earning your spot on a team or having a good reputation.
- Don’t jump to conclusions.
- Choices, more than abilities, show what we truly are.
Mrs. Brown will lead our next book club, Friday, December 8th during the fourth grade lunch. We will discuss chapters 1-5 of Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. Click the link to request the book from the Cary Memorial Library. As of December 1st, there were 20+ copies available on order from neighboring libraries.
