Parents Consider Sharing your Immigration Story

Dear Parents,

Some of your students may have mentioned, we are beginning a new unit in Social Studies. Over the next few weeks, we will be studying immigration.

In the past, I have leaned on parents to bring their personal experiences of immigrating to the United States to engage students in a different way. Please consider coming into the classroom to share their immigration story (this can yourself, grandparents, aunts or uncles). Students will prepare some questions ahead of time.  To be most prepared, volunteers should think about sharing push (why they wanted to leave their origin company) and pull (what drew you to the US) factors. Check out some questions we have created for parents!

There are also two volunteer slots for each half hour. For example, the first time slot is 10-10:30 am on February 5, 2018. There are two slots for that half hour. With that being said, if the times do not work for you, please let me know another time and we will do our best to accommodate you.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I look forward to seeing many of you in the next few weeks and hearing your stories.
